The Australian Workers’ Union is one of Australia’s largest and oldest blue-collar Unions. Our members started in 1886, organising the shearing sheds and mines of Victoria and Queensland and built collective power in thousands of sites across the country. The AWU is a leader of the union movement; our members fight for good wages, fair conditions, safe workplaces and the advancement of workers’ rights through collective activism and political power. Today we represent workers in many different industries from civil construction, construction materials, steel, aluminium, glass, healthcare, agriculture, oil and gas, mining and many others. AWU members know that a fair workplace is one that is safe for everyone. To make workplaces more inclusive means men and women working together to make cultural change and that is Union business.
