International Women’s Day: Master Builders levels the site

Master Builders Australia marked International Women’s Day 2026 by bringing together government, industry leaders, employers and apprentices to highlight the national Level the Site program and the role mentoring can play in supporting women to build long-term careers in construction.

More than 50 women are currently participating in the Level the Site mentoring program, which connects women across the construction industry with experienced mentors who provide practical guidance on workplace challenges, leadership development and career progression.

Master Builders Australia CEO Denita Wawn said increasing and sustaining women’s participation in construction is critical as the industry responds to significant housing, infrastructure and workforce pressures. Women currently represent 13.2 per cent of the construction workforce, highlighting the need to create workplaces where more women can enter, stay and progress.

Level the Site forms part of a broader national effort that includes mentoring, employer training, on-site toolbox talks, awareness activity and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening workplace culture across the industry.
